The hotel industry is preparing for a significant change as the group behind Best Western introduces a new global identity and combines two established hotel loyalty programmes.
WorldHotels announced on 27 October that its parent organisation, previously known as BWH Hotels, will bring its entire portfolio under the WorldHotels corporate masterbrand.
The transformation covers more than 4,000 hotels across 100 countries and 18 hotel brands. At the centre of the change is the introduction of WorldHotels Rewards, which will combine Best Western Rewards and the existing WorldHotels Rewards programme from 5 January 2027.
The combined programmes currently represent approximately 70 million members.
For hotel guests, the most important development is not necessarily the corporate name change. It is the consolidation of the loyalty structure, including a reduction in the number of membership tiers and a new digital experience. WorldHotels
Best Western hotels will keep their familiar names
Despite the scale of the rebranding, travellers should not expect every hotel to suddenly change its name.
The new WorldHotels identity will act as the overarching corporate brand, connecting the group’s existing hotel portfolio under one global structure.
Individual hotel brands will retain their identities, including:
- Best Western
- Best Western Plus
- Best Western Premier
- BW Premier Collection
- BW Signature Collection
- Aiden
- SureStay
- WorldHotels Collection
This means that a Best Western hotel in Copenhagen will remain a Best Western hotel, while an independent boutique property operating under WorldHotels Crafted will retain its individual identity.
The strategy is designed to make the wider portfolio easier to discover without removing the character of individual hotels.
For travellers, this could eventually make it easier to find suitable accommodation across different price categories while retaining a common booking and loyalty infrastructure.
The company is also positioning WorldHotels Collection as its platform for upscale and luxury independent properties, organised into six categories: Luxury, Elite, Distinctive, Crafted, Backdrop and Residences. WorldHotels
WorldHotels Rewards launches on 5 January 2027
The most significant change for frequent hotel guests will be the consolidation of the two loyalty programmes.
Best Western Rewards and WorldHotels Rewards will become a single programme under the name WorldHotels Rewards.
According to the company, the new programme will introduce three membership tiers while preserving several important existing benefits.
The company has confirmed that:
- Existing points will retain their current value.
- Points will continue not to expire.
- Member-only rates will remain available.
- Status matching will continue.
- Members will have additional opportunities to earn points across the expanded portfolio.
These commitments should reassure existing members that the consolidation is not intended to eliminate the value of accumulated loyalty balances.
However, the new programme will introduce a different approach to membership levels, which could have more significant consequences for frequent guests.
Further details are scheduled to be announced on 16 November 2026, ahead of the January launch. WorldHotels
Five membership tiers become three
One of the most interesting aspects of the announcement concerns the reduction in membership tiers.
The current Best Western Rewards programme has five levels:
| Current status | Qualification requirement |
|---|---|
| Blue | Membership level |
| Gold | 5 nights |
| Platinum | 7 nights |
| Diamond | 15 nights |
| Diamond Select | 25 nights |
The programme currently offers progressively better benefits as members move through the status structure.
Depending on membership level and hotel participation, these include additional points, restaurant or drink vouchers, early check-in, late check-out, room upgrades and a 48-hour room guarantee.
The Scandinavian programme also currently advertises member discounts of 10–15 per cent on hotel stays in the region.
The new WorldHotels Rewards programme will have three membership tiers instead of the existing five-tier Best Western structure.
This raises several important questions for existing members.
Will Diamond Select members automatically receive the highest new status? Will members who have accumulated nights towards their next qualification level retain that progress? And will the benefits currently associated with individual tiers be preserved or redistributed?
These details have not yet been disclosed.
For frequent travellers, the status transition could ultimately be more important than the corporate rebranding itself. A simpler programme is not necessarily a more generous programme, and the value will depend on the qualification thresholds and benefits attached to each new tier.
The announcement expected on 16 November should therefore be particularly important for existing elite members. Best Western
Scandinavia: 220 hotels under the new umbrella
The development is particularly relevant to Scandinavian travellers.
According to the group’s Scandinavian websites, the portfolio includes approximately 220 hotels across the region.
These properties cover several market segments, from traditional business hotels to independent boutique properties and upscale accommodation.
Examples include:
- Best Western Plus Hotel Hebron
- Hotel Frantz
- Sandtorgholmen Hotel
The expanded WorldHotels platform will connect these properties with the group’s wider international network.
For Scandinavian members, the opportunity is potentially attractive. A single loyalty programme covering more than 4,000 hotels could provide additional options when travelling outside the Nordic region.
The group is also maintaining its existing Scandinavian presence and the familiar Best Western brands, meaning that guests should not need to change their hotel preferences simply because the corporate identity is changing.
The exact regional benefits and status arrangements will become clearer when the new programme conditions are published. Best Western
A new digital experience for hotel guests
The transformation also includes investment in the group’s digital infrastructure.
WorldHotels has introduced a new website and redesigned mobile application, supported by a hotel discovery platform intended to make it easier for travellers to explore properties, neighbourhoods and local experiences.
The company says the platform incorporates more than 10,000 hours of insights gathered from hotel teams.
This is an interesting strategic direction.
Large hotel groups have traditionally competed through distribution, brand recognition, loyalty benefits and corporate agreements. Increasingly, however, the ability to help customers discover distinctive independent properties is becoming an important competitive advantage.
WorldHotels is attempting to combine the scale of a global hotel network with the local knowledge of independently operated hotels.
For guests, the potential benefit is a broader selection of properties without having to navigate multiple disconnected loyalty programmes and booking platforms.
The actual customer experience will depend on how well the new website, app, reservations infrastructure and loyalty systems work together once the transition is complete. WorldHotels
What should existing members do now?
For current Best Western Rewards members, there is no immediate reason to panic.
The company has explicitly stated that existing points will retain their value and will not expire.
Nevertheless, frequent guests should pay particular attention to the forthcoming programme announcement.
I would recommend three practical considerations:
1. Review your current status.
Check your current qualification level and the number of nights required to reach the next tier. This information may become relevant when the transition arrangements are announced.
2. Do not redeem points simply because of the rebranding.
The company has confirmed that existing points will retain their value and continue not to expire. There is therefore no stated reason to rush into redemptions solely because of the programme merger.
3. Follow the 16 November announcement.
The new three-tier structure, qualification requirements and treatment of existing status levels are the most important outstanding details.
Members who regularly use room upgrades, late check-out or other elite benefits should pay particular attention to the new terms.
Arrival.guide verdict: A major opportunity, but status will determine the real value
The transformation is one of the more significant hotel loyalty developments of 2026.
Bringing approximately 70 million members together under one programme creates substantial scale and could improve the proposition for travellers who regularly stay at different brands within the network.
For Scandinavian travellers, the 220 regional hotels provide a strong foundation for the new loyalty platform.
However, the real test will be the new membership structure.
Preserving points and member rates is welcome, but frequent guests will ultimately judge the programme on the benefits they receive, the number of nights required to qualify and the flexibility of redeeming their points.
The bottom line: WorldHotels is building a much larger and more connected hotel ecosystem. Existing Best Western members have reason to be cautiously optimistic, but the announcement on 16 November will determine whether the new three-tier programme represents a genuine improvement for frequent travellers.
